may this dress show you my perspective on housework :)

something's fishy
My theory on housework is,
if the item doesn't multiply, smell, catch fire,
or block the refrigerator door, let it be.
No one else cares. Why should you?

'something's fishy' is part of my 'home sweet home'* series and my contribution to this year's Attleboro Arts Museum's annual auction.

I am so honored to be asked to support this jewel of an institute.

Also this Saturday will be the live auction. I went last year and it was awesome!!! The Attleboro Arts Museum’s Benefit Art Auction is a Museum tradition – supported by hundreds of artists, donors, area businesses and art lovers alike. It is the Museum’s most important fundraiser and vital to the continued growth of our organization and arts programming in our region.

*In her 'home sweet home' series,  Fitzgerald is challenging the ‘picture perfect’ life portrayed by magazines, catalogs and the media. She takes the photograph of one of these Utopian settings and adds some surrealistic details then adds the empty, hanging dress symbolizing the emptiness of the pursuit of this idealistic life.

may this dress help you know when it is time to withdraw, for a day!!

"Every person needs to take
one day away.
A day in which one consciously
separates the past
from the future
...
Each person deserves a day away
in which no problems are confronted,
no solutions searched for.
Each of us needs to withdraw
from the cares which
will not withdraw from us."

as much as our
perfections.

from the mouth of babes . . . .

this picture is of a page spread of one of art club student's altered book,
it made my heart smile . . . .

Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes
your hopes shine to the stars.
Enthusiasm is the sparkle in your eyes,
the swing in your gait.
The grip of your hand,
the irresistible surge of will
and energy to execute your ideas.

let no one dull your sparkle
your shine
your enthusiasm!!!
EVER!!!

May this dress help you stay present (and don't panic:) ~

note to self:
this dailydress journal entry is inspired by one of
my favorite books/ideas:
'bird by bird' by Anne Lamott.
When everything seems overwhelming the best way
not to panic is ~ bird by bird, one thing at a time ~

may this dress help you practice compassion ~

compassion for others,  but especially for yourself ~
today, practice self-compassion!

“Compassion is not religious business,
it is human business,
it is not luxury,
it is essential for our
own peace and mental stability,
it is essential for human survival.”

may this dress bring you self acceptance ~

Self-acceptance is a practice,
a willingness to slowly expand
our ability to see ourselves
as we are
and
simply be with
what we see.
oriah mountain dreamer

entire quote:
"Self-acceptance is a practice, a willingness to slowly expand our ability to see ourselves as we are and simply be with what we see. I am a passionate, outspoken woman. I have a tendency to want rules but a mind and heart that simply will not let me settle into one-size-fits-all ethical absolutes. I think fast- which does not always mean clearly- and talk faster. I want to be wisely quiet, mysteriously silent, deeply contemplative. And sometimes I am all of these things. But when I am with the world I am more often directive, opinionated and passionately expressive. Sometimes this makes me discerning and effective. Occasionally it means I can be downright inspiring. But sometimes it just makes me relentlessly judgmental and annoyingly bossy. . . .The truth is no life is inherently more “spiritual” than another, no personality or set of ego characteristics more readily available to an awareness of the still and sacred presence we are than another. All personalities have slightly different struggles on the road to waking up to who we are and why we are here." ~Oriah Mountain Dreamer from THE CALL. Ah yes, let's embrace our own particular stumbling blocks & gracefully insightful ways of being today. This humanness- a constant lesson in humility & appreciation for the man or woman we are.

may this dress help you to join you heart and your mind ~

Lakota Instructions for Living

Friend do it this way - that is,
whatever you do in life,
do the very best you can
with both your heart and mind.

And if you do it that way,
the Power Of The Universe
will come to your assistance,
if your heart and mind are in Unity.

When one sits in the Hoop Of The People,
one must be responsible because
All of Creation is related.
And the hurt of one is the hurt of all.
And the honor of one is the honor of all.
And whatever we do effects everything in the universe.

If you do it that way - that is,
if you truly join your heart and mind
as One - whatever you ask for,
that's the Way It's Going To Be.

may this dress show you 'life is right'!!!

"I wish that you may find patience enough in yourself to endure,
and simplicity enough to believe;
that you may acquire more and more confidence in that which is difficult,
and in your solitude among others.
And for the rest, let life happen to you.
Believe me:
life is right,
in any case."
— Rainer Maria Rilke

may this dress bring you new strength!!!

In honor of the amazing Eleanor Roosevelt,
whose birthday was yesterday

And if you want more about this wise, wise woman,
check out this post about Eleanor on the blog,

This is an exquisite blog, below is its description by the artist Lisa Congdon:

"The Reconstructionists — a yearlong celebration of remarkable women who have changed the way we see the world. Every Monday in 2013, project collaborator Maria Popova and I will publish an illustrated portrait (by me) of one trailblazing woman (artist, scientist, writer), along with a hand-lettered quote that captures her spirit and a short micro-essay (by Maria) about her life and legacy. The project is housed on its own blog. - See more at: http://lisacongdon.com/blog/2013/01/page/2/#sthash.9vtN6LHG.dpuf

may this dress remind you to be the 'artist of your days'!!!

“Each of us is
an artist of our days;
the greater our integrity
and awareness,
the more original and creative
our time will become.”
John O'Donohue, To Bless the Space Between Us: A Book of Blessings

As many of you know I have been possessed with putting together work for a two person show at the Fountain Street Fine Art Gallery in Framingham.   Yesterday the show opened and needless to say I was working up to the very last moment, but now it is DONE!!

Here are some photos from my iphone of the installation of my pieces! The owners of the gallery, Marie Craig and Cheri Clinton do an amazing job of curating and hanging the work.  Here is the link to the gallery's blog with more image and more information about the show and my awesome co-exhibiter, Anne Gilson

may this dress give you vision, determination and belief in YOURself!

may this dress help you trust the dots.

. . . you can't connect the dots looking forward;
you can only connect them looking backwards.
So you have to trust that the dots will
somehow connect in your future.
You have to trust in something ~
your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever.
This approach has never let me down,
and it has made all
the difference in my life.

may this dress expose your true nature . . .

opening in a week :)

When we come close to those things
that break us down,
we touch those things that
also break us open.

And in that breaking open,
