“The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference.
The opposite of art is not ugliness, it’s indifference.
The opposite of faith is not heresy, it’s indifference.
And the opposite of life is not death, it’s indifference.”
Elie Wiesel
We are a week away from an election that I believe is the most critical election of our lifetime and the history of our country. Maybe there have been past elections where people felt that the entire future of the world rested on the outcome, but from where I am standing there has never been an election as crucial as the one happening next week.
This entire election cycle has been so painful to watch as our government has spiraled down into reality TV. A certain candidate's behavior has validated beliefs and behaviors that are sexist, racist, misogynist, xenophobic, narcissistic, volatile and immature, and yet he is so close to being the leader of our country which scares me beyond belief.
But we can stand up and tell the country and the world that we do not agree with this candidate's behavior and rhetoric, that this candidate in no way, shape or form represents our beliefs and opinions. But to do this we must vote!!!
I have been witness to elections that were 'thought to be a sure thing' that have been lost because of a lethargy and over confidence. I have experienced election outcomes skewed by indifference and apathy. And I understand how you could feel disillusioned and depressed about the entire state of our electoral process.
BUT that said, you still need to go out and participate, voice your opinion, to out and VOTE!!!
GO VOTE!!!
love, mom
