may this dress encourage you to find some stillness today . . .

Learning how to be still,
to really be still
and let life happen -
that stillness becomes a radiance.
Morgan Freeman

A good friend of mine is in hand to hand combat with brain cancer, and he is eloquently sharing his journey via a blog.

His latest post, “the ability to just sit there…that’s being a person” LCK  I found so moving and profound that it has inspired today's daily dress inspiration.  I highly recommend that you grab a cup of coffee and take a moment to read his entry.

He speaks to the importance of stillness, a subject that I feel so strongly about and struggle with daily.

The importance of being still, quiet, or, dare I say, bored?!? And with the plethora of electronic amusements literally at our fingertips we will never need to be still or bored again.

But there are wonderful treasures in those quiet moments!! I am a huge believer in the power of daydreams and doodles.

So much spiritual literature speaks to the idea that all we need lies within us, to look in; but how does one do that if one's attention is always focused on a handheld device.

I appreciate the irony of this argument, as I am sitting at a computer, composing a blog entry containing links to other blogs and a video clip, no less.  And once i'm finished, i will then post the link to this blog on numerous social media sites ~
just adding more information, noise to the world.

This is a dilemma that I am eternally pondering ~
"to post or not to post,
that is the question??"

Yet there is great information to be gleaned from these devices ~ pinterest and instragram, so inspiring!! love reading blogs from other artists, illustrators, authors and friends; learning about their struggles, triumphs and thoughts.   And I do learn some helpful tips from facebook?!?! but at what cost?!?!?

i have pinned this to one of my pinterest boards :)
This is a debate that i have many thoughts and questions about,  however a new, fresh, beautiful day awaits me
and this issue is not going away anytime soon.
(so to be continued . . .)

Yet before i sign off, may I encourage you, that sometime today, you take some quiet for yourself, in what ever manner works for you.

And if and when you have a moment read Mark's blog post and watch Louis C.K. for a comedic, yet profound and a bit crude, point of view on the subject!

 peace

may this dress help you know when to let go . . . .

“Some people believe holding on
and hanging in there are
signs of great strength.
However, there are times
when it takes much more strength
to know when to let go
and then do it.”
― Ann Landers

may this dress bring you patience . . .

May this dress show you all your successes . . .

“To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children...
to leave the world a better place...
to know even one life
has breathed easier because
you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.”

may this dress help you embrace chaos . . .

Life is nothing
without a little chaos
 to make it interesting.
Amelia Atwater-Rhodes

or
this refrain from the Frou Frou's  "Let Go"
also seems to fit today ~

So, let go, let go
Jump in
Oh well, what you waiting for?
It's all right
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown
So, let go, let go
Just get in
Oh, it's so amazing here
It's all right
'cause there's beauty in the breakdown
:)

may this dress encourage you to take your truth-seeking journey . . .

“I've come to believe that there exists in the universe
something I call "The Physics of The Quest"
- a force of nature governed by laws as real
as the laws gravity or momentum.
And the rule of Quest Physics maybe goes like this:
"If you are brave enough to leave behind
everything familiar and comforting
(which can be anything from your house
 to your bitter old resentments)
and set out on a truth-seeking journey
(either externally or internally),
and if you are truly willing to regard
everything that happens to you on
that journey as a clue,
and if you accept everyone you meet
along the way as a teacher,
and if you are prepared - most of all -to face (and forgive)
some very difficult realities about yourself....
then truth will not be withheld from you."
Or so I've come to believe.”
Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love

Last night I watched the movie version of 'eat, pray, love'. I had been hesitant about watching the movie.  I had LOVED the book and found it quite profound and was suspect of Hollywood's ability to do the book justice.  But last night it felt like the right time.  The book had been referenced to me on a few different occasions and  I had the DVD from the library and it was soon going to be overdue.

Once again I was struck with how the message in Elizabeth Gilbert's story hits very close to my personal journey ~ her quest for truth and spiritual growth.  Now I would LOVE to be able to take a year off and find myself while in Italy, India and Bali, but my life is different and my truth-seeking journey needs to be done here in Natick, with my darling angel daughters, which is all good.

But Elizabeth's ideas and thoughts ring true wherever one is and what made me choose this quote was:

... regard everything that happens to you
on that journey as a clue,
and if you accept everyone
you meet along the way as a teacher

If you really think about those words and reflect on your life it is profound!!!
And I want to thank all my teachers!!
THANK YOU!!!
and peace ~

may this dress bring peace ~

'dear jeff' (2011-2012)
for all of those affected by
the events of September 11th,
which is all of us -
some more obvious than others.

Today's dress is a commissioned
sculpture for a man who lost his fiancée
12 years ago today.

At the 10 year anniversary
of this tragedy he felt that it
was time to let go of
his box of memories.
He asked me if I could create
something out of his treasure box.
I was honored and accepted the task.

This was a box full of letters;
notes between the couple during college,
cards of encouragement for new jobs,
the announcement about their engagement,
articles about 9/11,
the missing person flyers,
and then
a cornucopia of condolences cards,
from friends, family, coworkers,
communities and even strangers.
These communiques played a huge role
is Jeff's recovery;
the power of a caring community.

When Jeff approached me,
he didn't want a memorial of
his fiancée and her death.
He wanted a sculpture that would portray
the importance of community,
and the positive growth that
can come through adversity,
as well as a celebration of Amy's spirit.

To read more about the piece, click here,
(though I just realized that longer
description of this piece is yet to be written)

So for today I give you 'dear jeff'
and the words of John Lennon,
from his anthem, 'imagine'.
One of my utmost favorite songs,
with lyrics that reach into the true
depth of my soul and makes me ache
for the world he describes!!

let us all strive for peace in our time.

As John Lennon said :
“War is over ... If you want it.”

"Imagine"

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

may this dress help you to LET GO!!!!!!

You must learn to let go
Release the stress.
You were never in control anyway.
Steve Maraboli

a good reminder as my life seems to be
turning up the intensity?!?!
this next month is full of wondrous opportunities ~
the two biggies:
 teaching at Dana Hall
and my two person show, breaking open,
 with Anne Gilson

All good but  . . .
can spark some stress.
So today I will let go,
remember to breathe
and enjoy the process!

but friendship is the breathing rose,
with sweets in every fold. oliver wendell holmes

this week I was blessed with the
company of dear friends,
some from afar and some from close by.
I was reminded of how a good friend is a seriously wonderful gift.
A gift of which I am truly grateful!!

may this help you cultivate your garden . . .

The heart is like a garden:

it can grow compassion or fear,
resentment or love.
What seeds will you plant there?
Jack Kornfield

today felt like a two quote day!!!
sending out 'seeds' of
self acceptance, compassion and love ~
