May this dress remind us of the power of love ... *

Love recognizes no barriers.
It jumps hurdles, leaps fences,
penetrates walls
to arrive at its destination full of hope.

(* for those who receive these posts as emails - I have revised today's post because I got curious about the source of the original posted quote from today's post and was unable to find it on the quote sites that I consider reliable, and I thrive to share correct quotes, correctly accredited. So I apoligize for sending out 2 emails today but I need to rectify my mistake.  thank you and peace, )

May this dress remind us to focus on our blessings, not our problems ...

“Live your life with purpose. Focus on your blessings, not your misfortunes. Focus on your strengths, not your weaknesses. Be yourself and don't wait for the approval of others. But most importantly, have a positive and humble mindset no matter what situation you are in. Count your blessings, not your problems, and you will realize how beautiful your life truly is.”

may this dress remind you ... only love leads to love

for my loved ones that are going through a difficult transition,
I am rebooting my dailydress blog!!
Also I always believe one can never have
too many positive messages in their day!! peace, V

"For some reason, we are truly convinced that
if we criticize ourselves, the criticism will lead to change.
If we are harsh, we believe we will end up being kind.
If we shame ourselves, we believe we end up loving ourselves.
It has never been true, not for a moment,
that shame leads to love.
Only love leads to love."

May this dress remind us to learn the wonders of balance ...

'dresstag' left at Karma Coffee, Sudbury, MA

Life is a balance between what we can control and what we cannot.
I am learning to live between effort and surrender.

May this remind you that there is NOTHING wrong with you!!!

“Your weirdness will make you stronger.
Your dark side will keep you whole.
Your vulnerability will connect you to
the rest of our suffering world.
Your creativity will set you free.
There’s nothing wrong with you.”

may this dress bring us all courage to face what we need to face!

Courage is nothing less than the power
To overcome danger, misfortune, fear, injustice,
While continuing to affirm inwardly
That life with all its sorrows is good;
That everything is meaningful even if in a sense
Beyond our understanding;
And there is always tomorrow.

Dorothy Thompson
(9 July 1893 – 30 January 1961)
was an American journalist and radio broadcaster, who in 1939 was recognized by Time magazine as the second most influential woman in America next to Eleanor Roosevelt.[1] She is notable as the first American journalist to be expelled from Nazi Germany in 1934 and as one of the few women news commentators on radio during the 1930s.[2] She is regarded by some as the "First Lady of American Journalism."[3]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorothy_Thompson

may this dress remind you that you are unconditional LOVEd!

Unconditional love really exists in each of us.
It is part of our deep inner being.
It is not so much an active emotion as a state of being.
It's not 'I love you' for this or that reason,
not 'I love you if you love me.'
It's love for no reason,
love without an object.

Ram Dass

you are unconditional loved!! love, mom

may this dress remind us to stop and pause ...

... pause to remember our blessings and to remember those who are not as fortunate as ourselves.
Pause and enjoy the love and joy of family and friends and to carry these feelings beyond today and into the new year.
Wishing everyone a joyous and peaceful holiday!!

dresstag left in China in 2013 - story below

Christmas gives us the opportunity to pause and reflect
on the important things around us -
a time when we can look back on the year
that has passed and prepare for the year ahead.

David Cameron

In 2013 some friends were traveling abroad and took some of my dresstags to place during there visit, here is the story about todays' photo:

Today's dresstag photo comes from  Guangzhou, China!!!!thanks to the wonderful and so talented Clara Bohrer.  She offered to take a few dresstags with her to China and last night I got this photo!! As I read her email I was bathed in a sense of amazement and wonder!! Besides the thought of my dresstags on foreign shores, I was bathed by the wonders of life!!

"The dress on the photo was left at a market in GZ, with the delicious dragon fruits. I left there and some 10 minutes later, when we walked back to that area, the dress was already gone and a young woman, that I think works there, was looking at us with a very big and friendly smile!!!!"

remember the kinder question ... what was I learning?!

View your life with kindsight. Stop beating yourself up
about things from your past.
Instead of slapping your forehead and asking,
‘What was I thinking,’
breathe and ask yourself the kinder question,
‘What was I learning?’

day80: pursue the things you love ....

“You can only become truly accomplished
at something you love.
Don’t make money your goal.
Instead pursue the things you love doing
and then do them so well
that people can’t take their eyes off of you.”
maya angelou

I'm sure I have said this to you both many a time, but I believe it can't be said too much!!
Learn what you love to do, pursue what makes your heart beat in double time!!
Make sure you to follow your passion, not your parents' or your friends' or what you think you are  supposed to do!!!
This is your journey and your life so make sure that you are solidly in the driver's seat!!
And remember that you can go off road as well,
to continue the driving metaphor.
I encourage you to think outside the box, there are many ways to do this life thing!!
In fact I believe that taking a more creative and inventive path may distinguish you in a very competitive world?!?!?
But really who knows.
But no matter what the results, if you pursue your heart's desires
then you will be happy and fulfilled,
which is all a mother could ask for.

loving you both so, mom

day 76: know the power of knowing and embrace it

I have learned over the years that when one's mind is made up,
this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear.

Rosa Parks
On this day, in 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for not giving up her bus seat to a white man.  This act and the words of Rosa Parks seem all the more poignant in our post-election state of affairs.
"As far back as I can remember, I knew there was something wrong with our way of life when people could be mistreated because of the color of their skin." Rosa Parks
So with her courage and message in mind wanted to remind you girls of the power of conviction.  It is amazing how when you allow yourself to believe in your actions, your beliefs, your intuition that you become invincible!!

The problem is that from an early age, society, religions, schools and the media teach us to not trust our inner voice, our intuition.  We are taught to doubt what we feel in our hearts as true.  So many messages are fed to us that this way of thinking is the right way, to go with the party line and not with our true beliefs. And now more than before, it is SO important for you to stand up for what you believe in (I know I am sounding like a broken record, but alas...)

And besides listening to your own personal inner voice, it is highly important to understand the amazing power of knowing.  Knowing and believing in your thoughts, ideas and dreams.  It is a wonderful energy and one I want you to embrace, not run away from.

We still live in a culture where that kind of vision and force is not always welcomed, especially from young women/women and I know many women who shy away from this power.  But I want to encourage you both NOT to couch this power, to embrace it and use it.

Rosa Parks didn't give up her seat on her commute home from a long day of work because she knew that all people, no matter the color of their skin, should have the same rights and should be treated equally.  She knew in her bones that equal rights was for everyone so she stayed seated and was arrested, but wasn't afraid because she knew she was right!!!

so channel your inner Rosa Parks today, my dear ones!!
love, mom

day57: our choices define who we are ...

“Its our actions that define us.
What we choose.
What we resist.
What we're willing to die for.”

As a mother of two girls I was impressed that 'making good choices' was being taught in school.  I remember how excited you were about learning about making 'good choices', and I felt that the school was empowering their students with a skill of independence.  I feel that this approach is better in this modern, high tech, fast-paced world which we live in, better than just teaching good and bad, because this is a skill that you use ALL of you LIFE.

Your choices define who you are! Choices have a ripple effect.  Making good choices is a skill to cultivate, and as you get older the repercussions and/or rewards get bigger.

We make choices ALL the TIME!!
Choices that define us and tell the world what is important to us and what is not.
We choose how we spend our time, what to give our attention to, who to spend time with and what we spend our money on.  Even the seemingly insignificant choices have their ripple effects; the choice to push the snooze button one too many times, or the choice to skip one class because you need to study for a test later in the day, or the choice to stay up late with a friend who needs to talk to a friend or the choice to recycle instead of just tossing your plastic cup in the trash.

And then the choices get bigger and more consequential; the choice to register to vote, the choice to vote, the choice to get into a car when you know the driver has been drinking, the choice to have unprotected sex (just this once) or the choice to shop-lift because everybody does it!

You need to know that you and you alone are responsible for your decisions, and the older you get the less you can blame others ... my dog ate my homework, the friend made me do it, i didn't think ... those excuses don't work when you are an adult.

and don't forget:
 ACTIONS speak LOUDER that words!!

Even though you may say you make 'good choices',
it is your actions that prove that statement to be true!

I know you are smart, and you do and can make good choices. Listen to your gut, your heart, your instincts because they, your inner self, will always guide you to make the good choice.

Lastly, learning to make good choices is a work in progress.  You learn by making some not-so-good choices and/or by watching friends and colleagues makes bad choices.  This is a skill that one is cultivating their whole life. Sadly age doesn't guarantee good choices, it is a skill to hone and to practice.  But the more good choices you make the better you get at making them.

day53: love yourself ...

You can't punish yourself into change.
You can't whip yourself into shape.
But you can love yourself into well-being.
 Susan Skye

I have said it before and I will say it again!!
LOVE YOURSELF

When I saw this quote I knew I had to share
as it is SO important to remember!!
Especially as I believe there is the general acceptance that being self-critical is the only way to motivate yourself and it is NOT!!
Beating yourself up will not lead to positive change,
it is more detrimental.
It is wasted energy and it really undermines and
taints one's everyday experiences.

So PLEASE stop the internal berating and focus on the positive.
You, as you are, have so much to offer the world and
always REMEMBER this ...
you are amazing,
you are lovely,
you are spectacular,
you are wonderful,
you are awesome,
JUST THE WAY YOU ARE!!!
so love yourself into well-being <3
