Dame Millicent Garrett Fawcett GBE (née Garrett; 11 June 1847 – 5 August 1929) was an English political activist and writer. She campaigned for women's suffrage by legal change and in 1897–1919 led Britain's largest women's rights association, the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies (NUWSS),^[1] explaining, "I cannot say I became a suffragist. I always was one, from the time I was old enough to think at all about the principles of Representative Government."^[2] She tried to broaden women's chances of higher education, as a governor of Bedford College, London (now Royal Holloway) and co-founding Newnham College, Cambridge in 1875.^[3] In 2018, a century after the Representation of the People Act, she was the first woman honoured by a statue in Parliament Square.^[4][5][6]

May this dress remind us to heed our still, small voice ...

Today my still, small voice is telling me to celebrate national women's history month by diving back into my #womenwonders series - highlighting the accomplishments and words of wisdom of the many amazing women. 

This project is so important to me as I believe that women are not celebrated and credited nearly enough for their contributions to our world and life as we know it! 

Heed the still, small voice 

that so seldom leads us wrong, 

and never into folly.

Marie Anne de Vichy-Chamrond, marquise du Deffand

 (1697 – 23 September 1780) was a French hostess and patron of the arts.

She was born at the Château de Chamrond, in Ligny-en-Brionnais of a noble family. 

Educated at a Benedictine convent in Paris, where she showed great intelligence and a skeptical, cynical turn of mind. The abbess of the convent was alarmed at the freedom of her views.

She appeared in her earlier days to be incapable of any strong attachment, but her intelligence, her cynicism, and her esprit made her the centre of attraction of a brilliant circle.
