Today is National Train your Brain day,
a day created to encourage everyone to stimulate their brain,
to flex that muscle, use that noggin,
expand their brain capacity.
Did you know that your brain structurechanges every time you learn something new???
So there couldn't be a better day to share one of my mantras,
an belief that I know you girls have heard many, many times from me ...
STAY CURIOUS!!!
KEEP LEARNING!!!
Keep asking questions and
NEVER be content with the easy answers!!
Your brain is like a muscle, and like all muscles
it gets soft if it is not exercised regularly!!
READ (always a good idea!)
MEDITATE (another 'always' good idea)
PLAY GAMES (board or electronic)
DO A JIGSAW PUZZLE
(and if you need to take a break and the puzzle isn't finished,
you can put a piece of mat board or other board over it.
I always wished we had had a family jigsaw always going)
VISIT A/MANY MUSEUMS (any kind of museum)
SOLVE A CROSSWORD PUZZLE, WORD SEARCH, SUDOKU OR KAKURO
JOURNAL
PLAY BOOGLE, SCRABBLE (any word game)
LEARN A WORD A DAY (english or foreign language)
TURN OFF THE TV (aka netflix) watching TV puts your brain on autopilot, no flexing there
PLAY CHESS
SOCIALIZE (talk with friends, face to face)
JOIN A CLUB OR INTEREST GROUP
GO OUTSIDE - note nature, sounds, smells, sensations ...
FIND A HOBBY
PLAY AN INSTRUMENT (you don't need to be good, it's the meandering and fiddling is important)
DOODLE/ZENTANGLE
TRY A NEW WAY TO DO AN OLD HABIT
(switch the hand you use to brush your teeth ...)
So keep that brain flexing, growing and strong. And remember, learning should not and does not only happen in a classroom, that is unless you know the world is your classroom :) love, mom
Inside the cortex of the brain are billions of tiny nerve cells called neurons. The nervecells have branches connecting them to each other in a complicated network.Communication between these brain cells is what allows us to think and solveproblems. When you learn new things, these tiny connections in the brain actually multiplyand get stronger. The more that you challenge your mind to learn, the more neuron connectionsyou make in your brain.Copyright © 2002-2014 Mindset Works, Inc.
