introducing a quarantine activity for all, the fairylandproject!! My neighbor Michele and I dreamt up this idea while walking in the woods.

As moms we really feel for all those parents with small children that don't have playgrounds or playdates to help fill these quarantine days. We thought that the chance to spot a fairy might help get young ones excited to go on a walk in the woods.

It is a project for all and a 'social distance' project. And it is important to remember that there is no right or wrong way to participate, although we hope that everyone will be mindful about what materials they are placing in the wildness.  Be considerate of materials that might harm local wildlife!! 

The idea of the fairylandproject is that anyone can make a fairy (any kind of fairy you want) and then go place it in your local woods or an area that a small child (or anyone) could spy it. This is not a location specific project!! anyone can make a fairy and place it in a wooded area! We have started it here, in the Natick woods, but anyone can do it anywhere!! WE also gave them names but that is not necessary - though if you want, we just wrote on white peddles with a sharpie!

We have started a FB group just so that there would a place where people could learn about the project. Also people can share the project and post, if they want, a picture of their fairy and their fairy's location, and/or share any fairy-making ideas or suggestions, and/or post pictures of found fairies.

This project is about spreading some magic and wonder during this extraordinary chapter in our global history.

Her sensational book Silent Spring (1962) warned of the dangers to all natural systems from the misuse of chemical pesticides such as DDT, and questioned the scope and direction of modern science, initiated the contemporary environmental movement.

Rachel Louise Carson (May 27, 1907 – April 14, 1964) was an American marine biologist, author, and conservationist whose book Silent Spring and other writings are credited with advancing the global environmental movement.

Carson began her career as an aquatic biologist in the U.S. Bureau of Fisheries, and became a full-time nature writer in the 1950s. Her widely praised 1951 bestseller The Sea Around Us won her a U.S. National Book Award,^[2] recognition as a gifted writer, and financial security. Her next book, The Edge of the Sea, and the reissued version of her first book, Under the Sea Wind, were also bestsellers. This sea trilogy explores the whole of ocean life from the shores to the depths.

Late in the 1950s, Carson turned her attention to conservation, especially some problems that she believed were caused by synthetic pesticides. The result was the book Silent Spring (1962), which brought environmental concerns to an unprecedented share of the American people. Although Silent Spring was met with fierce opposition by chemical companies, it spurred a reversal in national pesticide policy, which led to a nationwide ban on DDTand other pesticides. It also inspired a grassroots environmental movement that led to the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.^[3]Carson was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Jimmy Carter.

It seems to me that the cost of not being authentic is quite high!! resentment, rage, anxiety ...
But sadly I feel that many times our authentic self gets buried by the difference expectations and messages the we receive when we are young, the 'should' from media, society, community and yes from family and parents?!?!
I was so mindful about giving you extra baggage but these patterns are deeply sown into the fabric of our lives.  But what I want to encourage you to do NOW is to start excavating your authentic self! Become aware of what you truly want in your life, what are your dreams, fears, expectations, not the ones that were handed down to you.
The sooner you become aware of what is really ours and what you inherited, you become more authentic, which is so much better for you. love, mom
