Today, remember the importance of rest and self-care ...

“Rest and self-care are so important.
When you take time to replenish your spirit,
it allows you to serve others from the overflow.
You cannot serve from an empty vessel.”
 Eleanor Brownn

As we head into another week, it is so
important to take care of ourselves, give
ourselves a moment to exhale,
enjoy a cup of calmness!

act on purposes that are big, bold, righteous and eternal!!

You are only as strong as your purpose,
therefore let us choose reasons to act that are
big, bold, righteous and eternal.

Go placidly amid the noise and haste ...

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Max Ehrmann, Desiderata, Copyright 1952.

Girls, I reread this poem often, especially during times of change
 (new grade, new schedules).
And also, remember, that you are a child of the universe!

Be curious, create possibilities ...

My favourite words are
 possibilities, opportunities and curiosity.
I think if you are curious, you create opportunities,
and then if you open the doors,
you create possibilities.
Mario Testino

Be passionately curious, my girls!

there's no such thing as not voting.

Nobody will ever deprive the American people
of the right to vote except the American people
themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting.
Franklin D. Roosevelt

Girls, voting has never been as important as it is right now!
Seize your right, voice your beliefs and vote!!

Let us all remember balance in this month of transitions ...

I felt like balance was a good theme for September's calendar ...

Rumi was a 13th-century (born in Afghanistan) Persian poet, jurist, Islamic scholar and theologian. His quotes will transform your life for the better, they are based upon love, hope, inspiration, and awakening. May these quotes open up your heart and mind to the beauty that lies within you. (from awakenthegreatnesswithin.com)

here is a calendar if you need one for your desk, refrigerator, car  . . .
feel free to download and print out this calendar for
your personal use.
 if you are having problems downloading or printing the calendar,
just leave a comment or email and I will send you a PDF.
 I have uploaded a high resolution file,
so you should be able to click on the calendar and print.
It should fit on an 81/2 x 11 piece of paper, however, I always click
the printing option "scale to fit". see picture below.

Today remember that you are ALWAYS enough and trust the process ...

Quiet the voice telling you to do more and be more,
and trust that in this moment,
who you are, where you are at,
and what you are doing is enough.
You will get to where you need to be in your own time.
Until then, breathe. Breathe and be patient with yourself and your process. You are doing the best you can to cope and survive amid your struggles, and that’s all you can ask of yourself.
It’s enough. You are enough.

So girls, remember when you are feeling stressed,
just breathe and know that you are enough!

May this dress remind us to be BRAVE, not perfect!!

Never give up. People will always discount you,
and you'll always get rejected.
But set your sights high.
Be boldly ambitious.
Be relentless and never give up.
Reshma Saujani

Be brave my girls, don't worry about being perfect,
being brave and courageous is more important!

May this dress help us all find a bit of clarity today ...

Clarity and peace of mind are powerful tools.
Achieving either and both is only possible
when we allow ourselves to see life in all its variance.

As we head into the new school year, let us ALL
remember to breathe and find some sense of clarity! XX

holding on and letting go.”

As we cruise toward September with all it's adventures and new challenges,
I find revisiting these wise words from the poet Rumi to be helpful.

May this dress remind us that we are RESPONSIBLE for our planet!!

'dress of plastic ...' (2018)  ©virginia fitzgerald.com
made entirely of used plastic
“We are at a unique stage in our history. Never before have we had such an awareness of what we are doing to the planet, and never before have we had the power to do something about that. Surely we all have a responsibility to care for our Blue Planet. The future of humanity and indeed, all life on earth, now depends on us.”

May this dress helps us to open the door of growth!

“It’s a problem” is another deadening phrase. It’s heavy and negative.
“It’s an opportunity” opens the door to growth. Each time you can see the gift in life’s obstacles, you can handle difficult situations in a rewarding way. Each time you have the opportunity to stretch your capacity to handle the world, the more powerful you become.”

Let us stretch, grow and become powerful!!

May this dress remind us all to trust ourselves ....

dailydress journal, feb. 24, 2011, 'entered ...'

Trust yourself.
Create the kind of self that you will be happy
 to live with all your life.
Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny,
inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.

A much needed reminder ......

.... (especially for yours truly)

“Done is better than perfect.”

(a fun and helpful website, if you are curious.)
below you will find 13 points to consider when working on a project ....
  • There are three states of being. Not knowing, action and completion.
  • Accept that everything is a draft. It helps to get it done.
  • There is no editing stage.
  • Pretending you know what you're doing is almost the same as knowing what you are doing, so just accept that you know what you're doing even if you don't and do it.
  • Banish procrastination. If you wait more than a week to get an idea done, abandon it.
  • The point of being done is not to finish but to get other things done.
  • Once you're done you can throw it away.
  • Laugh at perfection. It's boring and keeps you from being done.
  • People without dirty hands are wrong. Doing something makes you right.
  • Failure counts as done. So do mistakes.
  • Destruction is a variant of done.
  • If you have an idea and publish it on the internet, that counts as a ghost of done.
  • Done is the engine of more.

from

This is a concept that I am continually struggling with but one that is very important to remember!
