may this dress motivate/ inspire you . . . .

“Today stretches ahead of you
waiting to be shaped.

You are the sculptor
who gets to do the shaping.

What today will be like is
up to you.”
Life, the Truth, and Being Free

I am needing a bit of motivation to tackle my humble abode that has been neglected during these past months . . . . maybe if I think of cleaning as 'sculpting' I might inspired/motivated ?!?! :)
wish me luck!!

may these dresses celebrate the wonders of friendships . . . .

Amicitiae nostrae memoriam spero sempiternam fore - Cicero
“I hope that the memory of our friendship will be everlasting.”

Today was my official last day as the middle school art teacher at Dana Hall :(

It was a day full of emotion, hugs and some tears, but all in all a lovely day. A perfect ending for a most amazing experience. And with that experience in mind, I am posting this dresscard, as I am hoping that this adventure will be everlasting: the friendships, the connections and all the experiences.

During my stint as substitute I was blessed by being connected to Latin teacher supreme, Ms. Wellington. She was my co-hort in crime and my co-advisor for a wonderful group of 8th graders. Ms. Wellington made these past months wonderful, always patiently answering my constant stream of questions. She even brought her daughters to see my show, 'breaking open' - swoon.

She and my advisees surprised me today with a little good-bye party, complete with this awesome poster with dresses from all the girls and a dress made out of brownie cupcakes, made by one of my advisees and they were so, so good!!! As I said above, a perfect ending to an amazing experience.  And hopefully 'ending' is not the appropriate word?!?!?  there has been much talk of 'on-call' sub and one never knows. . . .
But I am aware that this experience is ending and I want to acknowledge how truly blessed I am to have this opportunity, especially at this time of serious transition in my life!!

I am cleaning up the art room, getting it ready for the art teacher, collecting my coffee cups and clearing off her desk.  I'm not sure what is in store, but I know that i am truly grateful for these past months, being part of this very supportive community!! and hoping that these friendship are everlasting!!!
Thank you & peace ~

may this dress help you to reach for the stars!!!

“Every great dream
begins with a dreamer.
Always remember,
you have within you
the strength,
the patience,
and the passion
to reach for the stars
to change the world.”

may this dress bring you calm in your heart . . .

Peace. It doesn't mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart. - unknown

may this dress bring you a hug . . .

I will not play tug o' war.
I'd rather play hug o' war.
Where everyone hugs instead of tugs,
Where everyone giggles
and rolls on the rug,
Where everyone kisses,
and everyone grins,
and everyone cuddles,

May these dresses remind you of the gift that good friends are . . .

this dressjournal page was made with the scraps
collected during a delicious day meandering
Newbury St. with Ms. Maya and a dear, dear friend
A good friend is
a connection to life -
a tie to the past,
a road to the future,
the key to sanity
in a totally insane world.
~Lois Wyse

I am so thankful for my amazing friends!!
These past years would have been so much harder of a journey
without these amazing traveling companions;
those who are in the 'hood,
those who are a phone call away
and those wonderful new FB friends ~
it is remarkable the power of a simply 'like'. :)

Thank you all for being my key to sanity!!!
I'm so blessed!!!

may this dress bring you quiet strength, through love and nurturing ~

I am an example of what is possible
when girls from the very beginning
of their lives
are loved and nurtured
by people around them.
I was surrounded by
extraordinary women
in my life who taught me

may this dress bring peace . . . . world peace ~

. . . so that we can stop making veterans
and we can just celebrate them!!

It isn't enough to talk about peace.
One must believe in it.
And it isn't enough to believe in it.
One must work at it.

may these dresses celebrate new beginnings . . .

What we call the beginning is often the end.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.
The end is where we start from.

today 'breaking open' closes ~
an ending, yes, but a beginning too!!! peace

may this dress be a reminder . . . .

"A good life is when
you assume nothing,
do more,
need less,
smile often,
dream big,
laugh a lot
and
realize how
blessed you are
for what you have."

may this dress accompany you as you go!!!

“You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You're on your own.
And you know what you know.
And YOU are the one who'll decide
where to go...”
Today's daily dress inspiration was inspired by my 7th graders' perspective drawings. I am creating a bulletin board to to showcase these beauties and I wanted to title the board, 'Oh, the places you'll go', because each painting represents a new and exciting adventure!!!

Each student created a 'road' or pathway, working with perspective.  Once the trees and buildings were  basically correctly drawn, I have let them go wild with the watercolors.  I am getting wonderful results.  The variety is lovely - different skies, different seasons and some have varied the middle 'pathway', making it a river or railroad tracks.

Oh' the places one can go with art supplies!!
Happy Friday!!

may this dress help you to know your purpose . . . .

"I believe we’re all put on this planet for a purpose,
and we all have a different purpose…
When you connect with that love and that compassion,
that’s when everything unfolds.”
 – Ellen DeGeneres
(Comedian/Personality/Philanthropist and
a person who puts her money where her mouth is ) ~

Ellen DeGeneres gives $10,000 to waitress who paid soldiers' tab
(click above to view clip)
I stumbled upon this clip and was very touched.  I don't have a TV so I hadn't heard of this story.  But when I watched this short exchange I was moved.  Not only by the generosity of the waitress but by Ellen commitment to kindness.  Especially since the soldiers were concerned about their lunch bill because of our government's shutdown.  It just seems to highlight the absurdity of the situation when a woman who doesn't have much financial security helps the solders who are being penalized for working for an institution that were playing petty games with people's lives, saving and financial security.  And I ask what was gained or even learned by this tactic?!? It saddens me that egos and hubris seem to mean most in our government.

In fact I have seen this quote of Ellen's begin a sentence earlier:

“I work really hard at trying to see the big picture and not getting stuck in ego. I believe we’re all put on this planet for a purpose, and we all have a different purpose… When you connect with that love and that compassion, that’s when everything unfolds.” – Ellen DeGeneres

I felt that for my daily dress inspiration that the ego part of the quote wasn't that important, but as it always happens, I now see that it is important.

Thank you and peace ~

may this dress bring you heart . . .

The Journey
by Mary Oliver
One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice-
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
“Mend my life!”
each voice cried.
But you didn’t stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do-
determined to save
the only life you could save.
